Hyderabad: Telangana will procure 80 lakh metric tonnes of paddy this season, including rain-soaked grain, under a ₹25,000 crore initiative to support farmers affected by unseasonal weather.
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy made the announcement during a visit to a procurement centre in Gaddipalli village, Suryapet district. He assured farmers that the Congress-led government would stand firmly with them and ensure no loss from crop damage.
“We will purchase soaked paddy without hesitation. This is a pro-farmer government that stands shoulder to shoulder with the farmer,” he said.
Telangana sets national record in paddy procurement
Reddy said Telangana has achieved the highest paddy procurement in independent India’s history. No other state, he claimed, has recorded such output in a single season. He credited the milestone to farmer-centric policies and described Telangana’s model as efficient in both production and procurement.
Procurement records are being updated within 48 hours, and payments are reaching farmers’ bank accounts within the same period. Along with Minimum Support Price, farmers are also receiving applicable bonuses. District Collectors are overseeing operations directly, and public representatives have been asked to monitor the process to ensure transparency.
Roads and schools for rural upliftment
In Gaddipalli, the Minister laid the foundation for a two-lane blacktop road worth ₹8.28 crore. The new road will connect the village to a proposed Young India Integrated Residential School, planned with a ₹250 crore investment.
This school is part of a broader initiative to set up residential institutions for SC, ST, BC, and minority students in every Assembly constituency. Reddy said the aim is to offer quality education to children from remote and marginalised areas.
“We are investing in both roads and schools to build a better future,” he said.

Boosting rural livelihoods through aquaculture
At Ponugodu Cheruvu, Reddy launched a fish seed distribution drive. The government is supplying fish seed free of cost to all public water bodies suitable for aquaculture. The goal is to raise inland fish production, improve incomes for traditional fishing communities, and generate employment in rural areas.
“This initiative makes better use of our tanks and reservoirs and supports inclusive development,” Reddy said.
He concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to transforming Huzurnagar into a model constituency. He said sustained investments across agriculture, education, aquaculture, and infrastructure would help every village become self-reliant.
District Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar, SP Narasimha, RDO Srinivas, and other senior officials were present during the visit.
