Hyderabad: Irrigation officials opened 10 floodgates at Srisailam dam on Monday to regulate heavy inflows from upstream catchments across the Krishna basin, pushing major discharge downstream to Nagarjuna Sagar.
Total inflows into the reservoir touched 2,29,743 cusecs, while outflows exceeded 2,48,900 cusecs. Of the outflow, 1,62,942 cusecs were released through the gates, with the rest diverted to hydropower and lift irrigation systems.
The right bank hydel station discharged 20,000 cusecs, while the left bank contributed 35,315 cusecs. Another 30,643 cusecs were diverted to the Kalwakurthy Lift Scheme for irrigation supply.
Water levels at Srisailam reached 885 feet, slightly above the full reservoir level of 883 feet. Storage volume rose to 215.80 TMC, crossing the reservoir’s gross capacity of 204.78 TMC.
