Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Sridhar Babu on Monday rejected AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi’s claim that Congress won the Jubilee Hills bypoll with Majlis support.
Responding to remarks made at an election meeting in Karimnagar, Sridhar Babu said Congress secured the Jubilee Hills bypoll purely through its own strength. According to him, party leaders and workers campaigned relentlessly to achieve the victory.
Based on governance performance, voters chose Congress, the Minister said. He added that attributing the win to any other party amounted to a misreading of the public mandate.
Earlier in the day, Akbaruddin Owaisi said AIMIM leaders never approached chief ministers and claimed that political leaders had to approach the Majlis. He also questioned whether Congress could have won the Jubilee Hills bypoll without AIMIM backing. In addition, he said AIMIM would demonstrate its strength in the municipal elections.

Countering those assertions, Sridhar Babu said Congress neither sought nor depended on AIMIM support in the Jubilee Hills. Instead, he said the result reflected strong grassroots mobilisation and direct voter outreach.
Emphasising the verdict, the Minister said only voters decided the outcome. He stressed that no individual or party could claim ownership of the people’s mandate.
Looking ahead, Sridhar Babu said Congress would continue to rely on its cadre and policies. He added that the party remained focused on development and welfare during the municipal elections.
