BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju demands CM Revanth Reddy’s resignation over ED charges

Hyderabad: In a sharply worded open letter, BRS MLC Dr Sravan Dasoju on Monday demanded the resignation of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of being named in the Enforcement Directorate’s charge sheet in the National Herald financial corruption case.

Dr Sravan alleged that Revanth Reddy, during his tenure as a public representative, was involved in soliciting large sums of money as donations to Young India in return for political favours what he called a “politically motivated quid pro quo.” He said the charges fall squarely under the Prevention of Corruption Act and violate the moral fabric of constitutional governance.

“Your continuation in office violates the very soul of public service and constitutional morality,” Sravan wrote, asserting that Revanth’s position as Chief Minister cannot be insulated from scrutiny, given the principles of collective responsibility enshrined in Article 164 of the Constitution.

Citing landmark Supreme Court rulings including S.R. Bommai v. Union of India (1994) and State of NCT of Delhi v. Union of India (2018), Sravan argued that constitutional positions demand absolute integrity. “Even the perception of corruption is enough to warrant a resignation in a parliamentary democracy,” he said.

He backed his call with a long list of precedents, reminding that leaders from across political spectrums have stepped down amid allegations L.K. Advani, Lalu Prasad Yadav, Ashok Chavan, A. Raja, Dayanidhi Maran, B.S. Yediyurappa, and most recently, Arvind Kejriwal after his 2024 arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case.

“These resignations were not admissions of guilt they were gestures of accountability. Public trust must outweigh personal ambition,” he said.

Sravan warned that allowing Revanth to continue in office while being named in a corruption probe would only erode public faith in governance. “If the head falls morally, the body cannot remain upright,” he wrote.

He urged the Telangana Governor to step in if necessary but stressed that Revanth should resign voluntarily to uphold the dignity of the office. “The CM’s chair cannot be used as a shield against justice,” he declared.

Ending on a direct appeal, Sravan wrote, “Resign, Shri Revanth Reddy Garu. Let justice take its course without the stain of political interference. Step down and let democracy breathe.”
