Hyderabad: Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Friday said sports play a critical role in national growth, youth development, and building a stronger India. He made these remarks while inaugurating the 41st National Senior Kyorgi Championship at GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
Addressing the gathering, Rao pointed to India’s remarkable progress in sports. He noted that the country, which once struggled to win even a bronze medal, is now consistently securing gold, silver, and bronze medals on the Olympic stage.
He credited the shift to policy changes under the Modi government. Rao stated that sports funding has increased 130 times since 2014. He added that programmes like Khelo India and Khelo Kudho have been instrumental. These have been key in nurturing young talent and improving athletic skills across the country.
Sports national growth vision linked to Viksit Bharat 2047
Rao invoked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision and stressed that youth development and sports are key pillars of nation-building. He said these areas not only shape personality and discipline. Additionally, they also promote national integration.
Welcoming athletes from across the country, including those from northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur, he invited them to enjoy Hyderabad’s hospitality. He also encouraged them to try the city’s iconic Hyderabadi Biryani during their stay.
