MLA disqualification petitions linked to post-election defections

The Congress secured a decisive victory in the 2023 Assembly elections, while the BRS lost power. After the results, the five BRS legislators joined the Congress.

Following their move, BRS and BJP leaders approached the court and sought disqualification of the MLAs for switching parties after winning on a BRS ticket. The court heard the case and directed the Speaker to act immediately.

After receiving the court order, the Speaker began proceedings and prepared to issue a final ruling on the MLA disqualification petitions. The decision will determine whether the five legislators face disqualification under the anti-defection law.
