Social activists join Congress Hyderabad ahead of GHMC polls

Hyderabad: Social activists joined the Indian National Congress in the city on Wednesday, strengthening the party’s Old City outreach ahead of civic elections.

Salam Baginwan led the induction programme. Syed Khalid Saifullah, President of the Hyderabad District Congress Committee, attended the event along with senior leaders.

The programme followed the inauguration of the IS Sadan Division office. Party leaders said the new office marked the start of a wider expansion plan. They aim to strengthen the organisation across 44 wards under the DCC in Hyderabad.

Addressing the gathering, Khalid Saifullah welcomed the new entrants. He said the steady inflow of supporters reflected growing public confidence in the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

He referred to welfare measures such as free bus travel for women. He also cited the distribution of fine rice and the issuance of new ration cards. According to him, these schemes have made an impact in several Old City localities.

Khalid thanked Assembly in-charge Boya Nagesh and Shakeel Dayani. He credited them with mobilising support at the grassroots level. He said the party would intensify similar outreach efforts in the coming weeks.

The drive comes as preparations gather pace for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. Party leaders said the Social activists join Congress Hyderabad initiative forms part of a structured campaign to widen support.
