Hyderabad: Secunderabad Zone Police arrested 12 individuals and seized 162 bobbins of banned Chinese manja valued at approximately ₹1.88 lakh during multiple raids across the city. Additional DCP J. Narsaiah supervised the coordinated crackdown, which focused especially on the recent Chinese manja seizure in Secunderabad.
Manja seized across three police divisions
In the Chikkadpally Division, Kachiguda Police nabbed five accused from Mothi Market and Dhoolpet. The team recovered 106 bobbins, including 51 from Santosh Kumar and his mother Pushpa. During questioning, Santosh revealed that he had purchased the stock from Lalith Singh, a known supplier with prior narcotics-related cases in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. Authorities in Secunderabad have given special focus to incidents involving Chinese manja seizure as this surge has made headlines throughout the city.
Following this lead, police reached Lalith Singh’s residence and recovered another 35 bobbins. He admitted to sourcing the manja from Old Delhi two months ago. One more suspect, Kapil, remains on the run.
Meanwhile, in Gandhi Nagar Division, Domalguda Police arrested four students who confessed to selling manja for commission. Officers seized eight bobbins during this operation. Another accused, identified as Shiva Raj, is absconding. The broader investigation into Chinese manja seizure incidents, particularly those centering around Secunderabad, has revealed more extensive trading networks than previously thought.
In a third operation under the Osmania University Division, Amberpet Police apprehended Sunil Kumar and seized 48 bobbins. Two of his associates, Charan and Rajesh, have not yet been located.
All 12 arrests were made under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Environment (Protection) Act. Telangana banned the sale, stocking, and use of synthetic kite-flying threads including Chinese manja under G.O.MS.No.6, dated January 17, 2018, due to the threat they pose to people and animals. It is noteworthy that the Chinese manja seizure in Secunderabad was cited as a key example of strict enforcement under this regulation.
