Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh has alleged that a group of unidentified assailants attempted to attack him during a Bonalu rally in Manikeswar Nagar on Sunday.
The incident occurred while he was participating in a traditional “Falaharam Bandi” procession as part of Bonalu festivities. According to his complaint filed at the Osmania University Police Station, nearly 20 individuals intercepted his convoy by blocking the road with vehicles.
Ganesh also claimed that the attackers tried to snatch a firearm from his official gunman during the chaos.
Ganesh, who represents the Congress party, won the February 2024 Secunderabad Cantonment by-election with a margin of 13,000 votes over BRS candidate Niveditha, the daughter of late MLA Lasya Nanditha.
Nanditha had won the seat as a BRS candidate in the 2023 general elections but passed away in a road accident earlier this year, prompting the by-election.
MLA Ganesh has urged police to take immediate action against the perpetrators and investigate the motives behind the incident.
