Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha has slammed the Telangana government over the unpaid retirement benefits of thousands of RTC retired workers, backing their ongoing protests across state depots and accusing the Congress-led administration of gross neglect.
In a post on social media platform X, Kavitha said over 15,000 retired workers were struggling to survive without pensions or settlements. “In Indiramma Rajyam, RTC retirees are going hungry. They served the corporation for decades. Today, they have no benefits, no pensions. The government’s silence is shameful,” she wrote.
She alleged the administration was ignoring the plight of workers despite claiming the corporation had turned profitable. According to her, many retirees have been forced to make repeated rounds of offices for basic dues. She highlighted that the most affected include low-wage cadres like drivers and conductors, many of whom retired without pension eligibility.
Retired RTC workers, who served under the state-run transport corporation for decades, say they are being denied leave encashment, CCS payments, and arrears linked to the 2017 pay revision. Protesters allege benefits have been stalled for over a year, pushing many into financial distress.
Angered by the delays, retired employees staged demonstrations at multiple depots across Telangana last week. Protesters are demanding the immediate release of pending dues and the regular disbursal of pensions. Many plan to continue agitating every Monday until the government responds.
Kavitha demanded urgent intervention, calling on RTC management and both state and central governments to settle pending benefits and ensure pensions are processed for nearly 16,000 affected families.
