Hyderabad: Roblox Corporation has introduced Roblox age-based accounts for younger users, launching new safety features and parental controls for users under 16.
The Roblox age-based accounts include two categories Roblox Kids for ages 5 to 8 and Roblox Select for ages 9 to 15. The company said these accounts will align content access, communication settings and parental controls with user age.
The rollout, scheduled for early June, forms part of a broader effort to enhance platform safety. Roblox said the update integrates age checks, moderation systems and account-level restrictions into a unified framework.
Roblox age-based accounts define content access and communication
Under the Roblox age-based accounts system, users aged 5 to 8 will automatically receive Roblox Kids accounts. These accounts will only access games with Minimal or Mild content ratings, while communication features will remain disabled by default.
Users aged 9 to 15 will receive Roblox Select accounts. These accounts will allow access to games rated up to Moderate, while communication settings will remain unchanged for this age group.
The company said users will automatically transition between account types as they age. Users who complete age verification will gain access aligned with their category, while those without verification will face stricter restrictions.
Roblox age-based accounts add stricter moderation framework
Roblox said all content will continue to pass through moderation systems, including AI-based scanning and real-time monitoring. However, the Roblox age-based accounts system introduces additional evaluation for games available to users under 16.
The company will assess developer verification, gameplay interaction data and user reports to determine suitability. It will also exclude content involving sensitive themes or social interaction-heavy formats by default.
Later this year, Roblox plans to adopt the International Age Rating Coalition framework. This system will introduce region-specific content ratings such as ESRB and PEGI.
Roblox age-based accounts expand parental controls
Roblox said the Roblox age-based accounts update expands parental oversight tools. Parents will manage content ratings, communication settings, screen time and spending limits more precisely.
The update allows parents to block individual games and control chat settings for users up to age 15. In addition, parents can approve access to specific games not included by default.
The company said the new framework aims to improve safety while maintaining user engagement. It added that the system is designed to support age-appropriate experiences and provide greater transparency for families.
