Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said ideological politics had ended and been replaced by “Swiggy politics,” where management systems dominate and activists are sidelined. He warned that politics without activists poses a long-term threat to democracy.
At the Jaipal Reddy Democracy Award ceremony, Revanth said student politics must be revived in universities to rebuild ideological engagement. He called for limits on money in politics and stressed that his government would welcome reasonable suggestions from the Opposition.
He said no MLA had been suspended from the Assembly since he became Chief Minister. Revanth praised former Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy as a towering figure in Indian politics. He urged the youth to follow the legacy of Jaipal Reddy and P.V. Narasimha Rao.
Jaipal Reddy, he said, served as MLA, MP, Rajya Sabha member, and Union Minister. He introduced key reforms, including the Prasar Bharati Act, and always respected the Opposition’s role in democracy. Revanth recalled that Jaipal Reddy had no personal enemies and worked to address public issues until his last breath.
Revanth credited Reddy with playing a crucial role in the passage of the Telangana Bill in Parliament. “If not for him, Telangana may not have been formed. Sonia Gandhi herself told me it was Jaipal Reddy’s initiative,” he said. He added that Reddy never switched parties for power, only over principle.
