Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday triggered sharp protests in the Telangana Assembly, with the BRS staging a walkout during the Musi rejuvenation debate.
During the discussion, Revanth Reddy asked the BRS to clearly state whether it supported Musi rejuvenation or opposed it. He said the opposition should tell the House if it wanted the project or not.
The Chief Minister said the government was trying to explain the Musi rejuvenation plan to the public. However, he alleged that opposition members were repeatedly interrupting the debate. He also remarked that the pollution in the Musi was less harmful than the “poison within” some critics.
BRS objects to CM remarks, stages walkout
Senior BRS MLA Harish Rao objected strongly to the Chief Minister’s comments. He said the Business Advisory Committee had discussed running the Assembly for seven days. However, he claimed the official BAC copy did not mention the duration.
Harish Rao questioned how MLAs could prepare for debates when the agenda was circulated around 2 am. He said such delays affected the rights of elected representatives.
As the debate continued, Revanth Reddy repeated his remark that some people should “reduce the poison within themselves.” This further angered BRS members. Harish Rao responded that the Chief Minister’s words were more offensive than the pollution in the Musi.
He said all MLAs had equal rights in the House. He added that it was the Speaker’s duty to protect those rights. BRS members demanded time to discuss the remarks. When the Speaker declined, the BRS MLAs walked out of the Assembly in protest.
