Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presented a comprehensive list of state development priorities, urging the Centre’s support for a slew of key infrastructure, technology, and defence projects aimed at accelerating Telangana’s growth.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II
Revanth Reddy requested immediate Cabinet approval for the Phase-II expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The proposed expansion includes five corridors covering 76.4 km, with a total estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore. The project will be executed as a joint venture between the Centre and the state government. Telangana has already responded to clarifications sought by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The CM pointed out that while other metros such as Chennai and Bengaluru have received approvals for similar expansions, Hyderabad’s project has seen no movement for a decade under the previous administration.
Regional Ring Road and Rail Corridor
The CM called for simultaneous sanction and implementation of both the northern and southern parts of the 370-km-long Regional Ring Road (RRR), designed to decongest Hyderabad and support the expanding IT, pharma, and logistics sectors. The state has committed to sharing 50% of the land acquisition cost for both corridors.
He also proposed a railway line running parallel to the RRR to facilitate economic development across Telangana.
Connectivity to Bandar Port
Revanth Reddy urged the Centre to approve a greenfield highway and railway line connecting Hyderabad’s dry port to the Bandar Port. The CM highlighted Telangana’s contribution to India’s pharmaceutical exports and said the project would reduce freight costs and support industrial growth.
Semiconductor Ecosystem Support
Seeking to bolster Telangana’s position in the semiconductor sector, the CM requested the PM’s intervention to approve Telangana’s application under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). He emphasised Hyderabad’s robust ecosystem, including global R&D centres and manufacturers, and its strategic advantages like seismic safety and skilled labour.
Support for Defence Projects
Revanth Reddy also sought Central assistance in strengthening Hyderabad’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. He highlighted the presence of DRDO labs, over a dozen Defence PSUs, and 1,000+ MSMEs. He requested fast-track approvals for Defence JVs and government orders for defence OEMs operating in Telangana.
He also proposed official recognition of a Hyderabad-Bangalore Defence Corridor and suggested hosting the next DefExpo in Hyderabad to reflect its growing prominence in the defence sector. He further called for policy incentives for Defence MSMEs, including PLI schemes and financial support.
The CM’s appeal outlines a development roadmap intended to position Telangana as a national leader in urban transport, connectivity, manufacturing, and strategic technologies.
