Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for India’s first Earth Sciences University at Kothagudem on Tuesday. The ceremony formed part of the Praja Palana Vijayotsav programme. The government named the institution after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Reddy said the demand for self-rule began in Palvancha and Kothagudem six decades ago, giving the region lasting historical significance.
He added that Manmohan Singh fulfilled that aspiration during his term as Prime Minister. Therefore, naming the university after him carried deep symbolic value. He said the state continued to prioritise education and irrigation because both sectors shaped Telangana’s long-term development.
Revanth Reddy highlights education, irrigation and district progress
During the event, Revanth Reddy praised Manmohan Singh for steering the nation from crisis toward welfare. He said the government continued to draw inspiration from Jawaharlal Nehru’s development vision. Moreover, he noted that the district’s mineral wealth and institutions such as Singareni made Kothagudem a suitable location for the Earth Sciences University of Telangana.
He said irrigation projects in the united Khammam district had faced neglect for a decade. Consequently, the administration would complete those works and move the district toward steady progress. He added that Khammam’s development remained a core responsibility of the government.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao and Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and several local public representatives attended the foundation ceremony.
