Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed municipal officials on Monday to strengthen waste management, conserve drinking water and prepare plans to ease traffic congestion across Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister issued the directions during a review meeting at his Jubilee Hills residence on November 2. Officials briefed him on sanitation, wastewater reuse and traffic management measures.
The review focused on Hyderabad civic improvements, including daily garbage collection, construction waste disposal and infrastructure proposals to improve traffic flow.
Hyderabad civic improvements focus on waste collection
Revanth Reddy instructed municipal officials to monitor daily garbage collection and prevent waste accumulation in public places. Officials briefed him on door-to-door waste collection and action taken against those found negligent in carrying out sanitation duties.
He also directed authorities to make separate arrangements for removing construction debris across the city. Additionally, he asked municipal officials to coordinate with the Industries wing to ensure proper waste collection in industrial areas.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for regular monitoring of sanitation operations and effective disposal of collected waste. As part of the Hyderabad civic improvements review, Revanth Reddy directed officials to increase the use of treated wastewater from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
He asked authorities to promote treated water for construction, park maintenance, landscaping and gardening. The Chief Minister also instructed officials to avoid using drinking water for activities that do not require potable water.
Officials informed him that the Hyderabad Water Board had launched a green water tanker service in its first phase. The service currently operates 28 tankers, drawing treated wastewater from 19 STPs.
Revanth Reddy directed officials to expand treated water supplies based on demand across three municipal jurisdictions. These include the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC).
Underpasses and elevated corridors proposed to ease congestion
Reviewing traffic management, the Chief Minister directed officials to prepare comprehensive plans for underpasses and elevated corridors at key locations. He said the proposed infrastructure should improve vehicle movement and reduce congestion on major roads.
The Chief Minister also called for signal-free traffic arrangements at suitable junctions to reduce waiting times. He instructed officials to give particular attention to traffic regulation and measures that would ensure smoother movement across Hyderabad.
The meeting formed part of the government’s review of Hyderabad civic improvements covering sanitation, water conservation and traffic infrastructure.
MP Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Minister’s Secretary Manik Raj, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed and Municipal Commissioner G. Srujana attended the review. Other officials also participated in the meeting at the Chief Minister’s Jubilee Hills residence.
