Hyderabad: The Telangana government is working to integrate local industries with global supply chains and develop every district into an economic growth centre, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said on Monday.
Addressing the Mega FTA Outreach Programme at T-Hub, the Minister said the government would help local manufacturers and exporters access international markets. The Union Ministry of Commerce and the Telangana government jointly organised the programme to highlight opportunities under India’s Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
Sridhar Babu said the Telangana global supply chains strategy would focus particularly on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He stressed that exports would play an important role in achieving India’s long-term economic ambitions.
Telangana global supply chains strategy to support MSMEs
Sridhar Babu said India’s Free Trade Agreements with various countries were creating opportunities for domestic industries to enter international markets. However, he emphasised that businesses needed guidance to understand the agreements and use the available trade benefits.
The Telangana government would therefore support industries and exporters, particularly MSMEs, in identifying and accessing these opportunities. “Our objective is to ensure that ‘Made in Telangana’ products reach all countries with which India has entered into FTA partnerships,” Sridhar Babu said.
The Minister also sought stronger coordination between the Union government, state governments and industries to improve access to international trade opportunities. He suggested that the Centre provide the necessary institutional support and guidance to help states and businesses benefit from existing FTAs.
District-specific products to drive industrial growth
As part of its Telangana global supply chains strategy, the government is working to identify products with economic potential in individual districts. Sridhar Babu said the administration would promote manufacturing, processing and exports based on district-specific products.
The approach aims to strengthen local industrial ecosystems while creating economic growth and employment opportunities across Telangana. He said developing districts as economic growth centres would help extend industrial activity and export opportunities beyond established manufacturing locations.
The government would also guide local industries in identifying suitable international markets through India’s FTA partnerships. Sridhar Babu also highlighted the need to improve export opportunities for agricultural produce.
He said authorities should identify surplus agricultural output after meeting domestic requirements and explore opportunities to supply it to overseas markets. The Minister stressed that surplus produce should not go to waste when export opportunities were available.
He called for better use of agricultural resources through efforts to connect surplus production with international demand. The Telangana global supply chains initiative would also involve identifying export opportunities for locally manufactured and processed products.
Industries Department Special Secretary Krishna Aditya and Industries Director Nikhil Chakravarthy attended the programme. District Collectors Manu Choudhary, Priyanka Ala, Khushboo Gupta and Anurag Jayanthi were also present, along with other officials.
