CM Revanth felicitates Col Joy Dasgupta on Kargil Vijay Diwas
Hyderabad: On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met and felicitated Col Joy Dasgupta of the 18 Grenadiers, honoured as one of Hyderabad’s Kargil war heroes.
Then‑Major Joy Dasgupta led the operation to capture Tololing Hill a crucial enemy stronghold overlooking National Highway 1A that hindered logistics across Batalik, Turtuk and Kargil. His unit launched swift multi‑pronged attacks and reclaimed the hill from Pakistani forces.
A native Hyderabadi, Dasgupta studied intermediate at Wesley College, earned his degree from Osmania University, and received military training at the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai. Commissioned in May 1995, he led two companies during the Tololing operation and was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry.
Accompanied by his octogenarian mother, Col Dasgupta discussed ways the state government might encourage more youth to join the armed forces. Lok Sabha MP Mallu Ravi was present at the meeting and the felicitation ceremony.
