Rachakonda Police engage history-sheeters in traffic duties for reform

Hyderabad: In a significant shift from conventional policing, Rachakonda Police have launched a reform initiative. This aims to reintegrate reformed history-sheeters into public service roles, particularly in traffic management at major junctions.

Breaking away from the traditional surveillance model, the police selected individuals with a record of good behaviour. They engaged them in voluntary traffic regulation duties at high-traffic zones like Uppal, LB Nagar, and ECIL junctions. These former offenders now assist traffic personnel and guide commuters during peak hours.

As part of this initiative, 20 reformed individuals each from Kushaiguda, Uppal, and LB Nagar police stations volunteered for the programme. Under police supervision, they participated in traffic awareness drives. They also helped maintain road discipline.

Participants expressed pride in being given a chance to serve society, acknowledging their past mistakes. They described the programme as an opportunity to start a new chapter and gain public trust. “I’m proud to be of service to the public now. It gives a sense of redemption,” said one volunteer.

Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Sudheer Babu stated that plans are underway to include more individuals under surveillance in similar rehabilitation efforts. He affirmed that the goal is to transform policing into a tool for positive social change. The aim is to reduce reoffending through community integration.
