Hyderabad: The ongoing investigation into the sensational Telangana phone-tapping case has taken a major turn with the seizure of a laptop and mobile phone belonging to former Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) chief, Prabhakar Rao—named as Accused No. 1 in the case.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is handling the probe, confirmed that the seized devices are believed to contain critical data. Authorities have sent both the laptop and mobile to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to recover call records, messages, and backups from October 2023 to March 15, 2024.
The SIT has been issuing summons to individuals whose phones were allegedly tapped during that period. Their statements are being recorded sequentially as part of the wider investigation.
Sources say Rao has been summoned again for questioning on July 14, suggesting that the investigation is entering a decisive phase. Officials believe the forensic recovery could unlock key evidence regarding the scale and purpose of the surveillance.
