Hyderabad: Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Ganesh has assured residents that the decades-old drinking water shortage in the Cantonment area is finally on track for a lasting solution, thanks to fresh directions from Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The announcement came after a high-level meeting at the Water Board office, where top officials from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Cantonment Water Division, and the Cantonment Board—including its CEO—came together to map out both immediate fixes and long-term plans.
Speaking after the meeting, MLA Ganesh said that the Congress government is now actively working to ease the water crisis. He called on the central government to step in by providing land for new water storage reservoirs. He said these measures are crucial to secure the water supply for the area’s future needs.
He also pointed fingers at past governments, blaming the lack of coordination between state officials and the Defence Ministry-run Cantonment Board for stalling progress for years. Ganesh noted that the current state government is using its own funds to develop critical infrastructure and urged the Centre to chip in through the Defence Ministry.

Civilian Nominated Member Bhanu Narmada praised Ganesh’s persistent efforts and echoed the call for both state and central governments to stay committed to improving living conditions in the area.
Meanwhile, Water Board MD Ashok Reddy said nearly 90% of the area’s water issues have already been addressed. He said that a new water supply capacity—measured in millions of gallons per day—has been added to serve nearly 3,000 to 4,000 more households.
Ashok Reddy also emphasised the need for building overhead tanks and reservoirs, especially in densely populated areas, to ensure an uninterrupted water supply. He proposed forming a technical coordination team with GHMC and the Cantonment Water Division to smooth out operational kinks and keep the supply system running efficiently.
