Hyderabad: Old City metro works will begin in December, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said. He also said the Gowlipura-Chandrayangutta stretch could be completed within two and a half years.
Revanth Reddy said the project remained a commitment made to residents of Hyderabad’s Old City. He recalled an earlier discussion with Asad Sahab over the need for metro connectivity in the area.
According to the Chief Minister, Asad Sahab had questioned whether Muslims living in the Old City also needed metro services. Revanth Reddy said he agreed completely with the concern raised during that discussion.
He said he had then offered to provide the funds needed for the project. At the same time, he had asked Asad Sahab to help secure the properties required for road widening.
The Chief Minister said authorities needed land from 900 properties for the project. So far, 850 properties had reportedly been secured, leaving 50 properties still to be cleared.
Revanth Reddy said he had instructed the minister in charge to speak with Asad Sahab about the remaining properties. He also directed the minister to resolve the issue by providing whatever amount was demanded.
The Chief Minister said construction would begin in December if the remaining requirements were completed. Meanwhile, he appealed to residents to cooperate so the project could progress smoothly.
Old City metro route targets Gowlipura to Chandrayangutta
Revanth Reddy said the Old City metro could connect Gowlipura with Chandrayangutta within two and a half years. He linked the timeline to smooth execution and cooperation from residents.
The Chief Minister also referred to his earlier promise to return to the area by metro during the next election. He said he remained committed to that statement and was continuing efforts to complete the project.
The remarks highlighted the government’s focus on extending metro connectivity into the Old City. The proposed route would cover the stretch from Gowlipura to Chandrayangutta.
Revanth Reddy said the project required continued efforts to secure the remaining properties. He maintained that the administration was working to complete the process and begin construction in December.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while discussing the Old City metro project and its pending land requirements. He said he was personally pushing for the project to be completed as planned.
