Hyderabad: Tourism, Culture and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Thursday described the annual Nampally exhibition as a Numaish role model for Telangana’s commercial and cultural growth.
Speaking at the prize distribution ceremony at the Exhibition Grounds, the Minister said the event had attracted over 20 lakh visitors so far. He stated that the response reflected Hyderabad’s strong public connect with the exhibition.
According to him, the Numaish role model has evolved far beyond a trade fair. He noted that it offers a vital platform for small and medium-scale traders from across the country to market their products. Therefore, he suggested expanding the exhibition to district headquarters to extend its benefits.
Established in 1938 with just 100 stalls, the event now hosts around 1,050 stalls. He said this growth reflected industrial and entrepreneurial expansion over decades. Moreover, the exhibition generates substantial direct and indirect employment and contributes to economic activity.
Numaish role model and Hyderabad identity
Jupally Krishna Rao said the exhibition had become inseparable from Hyderabad’s identity. He placed it alongside the Charminar, Golconda Fort and the city’s famed biryani. According to him, the Numaish symbolised unity in diversity.
With products from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, he said the fair presents a “mini India”. He added that it mirrors Hyderabad’s composite Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb.
The Minister lauded the Exhibition Society for using its revenues for social causes. He noted that the society manages 19 educational institutions serving nearly 30,000 students. In particular, he highlighted its focus on women’s education.
During the event, he presented awards to stall organisers and officials from various departments, including police, traffic, electricity and Roads and Buildings. He expressed hope that the 86th edition would be organised on a grander scale.
Later, the Minister visited the Tourism Department stall at the exhibition. Exhibition Society Vice-President Sukesh Reddy, Secretary B N Rajeswar, Treasurer N Sanjeev Kumar, Joint Secretary T Chandrashekhar, Prize Distribution Adviser P Harinath Reddy and Convener B Anuradha were among those present.
