Hyderabad: Three people died in a major road accident in Andhra Pradesh after a private bus travelling from Nellore to Hyderabad rammed into a container lorry in Nandyal district early on Wednesday.
According to police, the ARBCVR private travel bus, carrying 36 passengers, met with the accident around 2 am near Sirivellametta in Sirivella mandal of Nandyal district. When a tyre burst suddenly, the driver lost control. As a result, the bus crossed the divider and hit an oncoming container lorry.
The collision killed the bus driver, the lorry driver and the cleaner on the spot. Soon after the impact, flames engulfed the bus, which led to panic among passengers.
Passengers escape due to timely help
Meanwhile, a DCM vehicle driver passing through the stretch noticed the fire and acted quickly. He broke the bus windows and helped passengers escape. Because of this swift action, all passengers survived.
However, more than ten passengers suffered minor injuries after jumping out through the windows. At the same time, the fire spread rapidly and gutted the container lorry completely.
Soon after receiving information, police rushed to the accident spot and carried out rescue operations. Subsequently, ambulances shifted the injured passengers to Nandyal Government Hospital, where doctors provided treatment.
Police later registered a case and began an investigation into the incident. Officials said they would examine the vehicles to identify the exact cause of the accident.
