Nationwide bank strike deferred after UFBU-IBA talks

Hyderabad: The nationwide bank strike planned from Monday to Wednesday has been deferred after talks between the United Forum of Bank Unions and the Indian Banks’ Association.

The UFBU, an umbrella body of seven bank unions, announced the decision after a meeting with the IBA on Sunday night. The All India Bank Employees’ Association shared the update in a social media post.

Earlier, the UFBU and other public sector bank unions had called a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30. They had raised two main demands: five-day banking and withdrawal of the Performance Linked Incentive scheme.

Nationwide bank strike demands under discussion

The two sides discussed the issues behind the proposed strike. Following the talks, the UFBU deferred the strike.

The UFBU and IBA will also form a high-level committee to examine the employees’ demands. The committee will discuss the concerns raised by the unions.

Further action will depend on the committee’s findings. The unions will decide their next step after the discussions conclude.

As a result, banks will operate normally from Monday. Customers will continue to receive regular banking services.

The unions will announce their next course of action after the committee submits its findings.
