Seven gates of Musi project lifted in Nalgonda as heavy inflows continue

Hyderabad: Continuous heavy rain and strong inflows from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar turned the Musi River into a swollen stream in Ketepalli mandal of Nalgonda district. As a result, irrigation authorities lifted seven gates of the Musi project on Wednesday to release excess water downstream.

20,000 cusecs released from Musi project

Officials explained that inflows from upper catchment areas had increased sharply since morning. Therefore, they raised gates numbered 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 by four feet each, releasing nearly 20,000 cusecs of water. Meanwhile, engineers continued tracking the inflow levels and adjusted the discharge accordingly.

Moreover, local officials warned residents along the riverbanks to stay cautious. Emergency response teams stayed alert to manage any eventual rise in the water level.

Traffic disrupted as Musi overflows near Rudravelly

Floodwater overflowed across the level bridge between Juluru and Rudravelly, completely blocking traffic between Pochampally and Bibinagar. Consequently, motorists took a longer route through Pedda Ravulapalli to reach Bibinagar and Bhuvanagiri.

In addition, authorities placed heavy barricades on both sides of the bridge and deployed police to manage the situation. They continued round-the-clock monitoring of the Musi’s water flow and flood spread.

Officials urge caution for riverside residents

Mandal Tahsildar Srinivas Reddy and MRI Gutta Venkat Reddy urged the public not to go near the Musi or low-lying areas. Furthermore, they requested residents to remain indoors and follow safety guidelines. Later, officials said they would maintain the alert until water levels dropped.
