Tension at Motinagar as police search former BRS MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy’s house ahead of Jubilee Hills by-election
Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at Motinagar on Friday after police conducted searches at the residence of former BRS MLA from Nagarkurnool, Marri Janardhan Reddy. The operation came just two days before the Jubilee Hills by-election scheduled for November 11.
The Election Flying Squad reached the residence around 11 a.m., where Reddy and his supporters were chatting outside the gate. As about 100 police personnel gathered at the site, the former MLA tried to enter the premises. However, police stopped him and his followers from going inside, leading to a heated exchange.
Marri Janardhan Reddy’s police search sparks confrontation
“This area comes under the Kukatpally constituency and has nothing to do with Jubilee Hills. I will cooperate, but show me the search notice first,” Reddy told the officers. Despite his objections, the two-member squad continued the search inside the house.
According to the BRS leaders present there, the police found nothing objectionable. Yet, they said, the officers completed their formal procedures and remained at the location for some time.
Party leaders added that the former MLA did not live in the house, which served as a guest facility for relatives and friends. They accused the police of overreach and raised slogans against them. Later, they displayed vests and briefs, claiming these were the only items found inside.
BRS alleges political targeting by the Congress government
The BRS leadership condemned the police action and alleged that the Congress government was targeting opposition leaders. They said MLC T. Ravinder Rao was staying in the guest house at the time of the search.
BRS functionaries questioned why the operation was conducted when the election code did not apply to the Kukatpally constituency. They described the search as an act of harassment against the BRS by the ruling party.
Meanwhile, additional police forces remained in the area to prevent further tension.
