Hyderabad: Labour and Employment Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Tuesday visited the Sanathnagar ESIC Hospital to assess the treatment provided to those injured in the ESIC Hospital scaffolding accident, which occurred on Monday during ongoing repair works.
The scaffolding collapse caused multiple injuries to workers who were reportedly engaged in maintenance activities on the hospital premises. The Minister met with the injured and spoke directly to attending doctors to understand their medical condition. He expressed satisfaction with the care being delivered at the government-run hospital.
ESIC Hospital scaffolding accident prompts official probe
Expressing concern over the incident, Dr. Venkatswamy instructed the hospital dean and management to launch a full enquiry. He specifically directed that the role of the contractor handling the scaffolding operations be investigated and that accountability be fixed at all levels.
The Minister emphasised that hospital zones must operate under strict “no-accident” standards. “Patient safety and worker protection are non-negotiable. Hospitals cannot become construction hazard zones,” he said. He ordered hospital authorities to implement robust preventive systems to ensure such accidents do not recur.
Officials were also told to review all ongoing repair and maintenance contracts for compliance with safety protocols. The enquiry will focus on lapses in execution, supervision, and contractor responsibilities.
Dr. Venkatswamy also assured the injured workers of necessary support and follow-up care. He said the Labour Department will continue to monitor the case closely until corrective action is completed.
