Hyderabad: Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao instructed officials on Saturday to complete all pending civic works in Khammam without delay.
He launched a ₹35 lakh CC drain project in Rotary Nagar, located in the city’s 9th Division. The 400-metre-long drain will improve drainage in the area. At the event, he noted that Khammam has seen visible improvements in cleanliness and civic maintenance.
Corporators asked to complete works within four months
The minister urged corporators to complete development works in their divisions within the next four months. He stressed that all civic projects must remain apolitical and meet long-term public needs.
Tummala also pressed for quality in all ongoing works. He told corporators to take direct responsibility for road widening projects. To support displaced poor families, the government would offer alternative homes and land, he said.
Moreover, he announced that the Khammam Corporation will adopt the Transferable Development Rights (TDR) policy. He noted that widened roads would increase commercial activity and boost property values.
To improve pedestrian access and safety, the minister ordered the immediate completion of footpaths over side drains and the installation of street lighting. He also directed officials to engage with residents and build public support for road expansion.
Additionally, he asked for faster completion of the ropeway and Velugumatla Urban Park works. Responding to complaints about Lakaram tank’s maintenance, he told officials to inspect the site and take necessary action.
Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Agastya said the CC drain project received full funding and that other essential works were also approved. He confirmed that NPDCL had received payments for relocating electric poles in the 9th Division.
Khammam Mayor Punukollu Neeraja, Market Committee Chairman Hanumantha Rao, municipal engineers, NPDCL staff, and other public representatives attended the programme.
