Medaram Jathara causes 5-km traffic jam on Tadvai road

Hyderabad: A five-kilometre traffic jam brought vehicular movement to a standstill on the Medaram–Tadvai main road in Mulugu district on Friday, as lakhs of devotees flocked to the ongoing Sammakka–Saralamma Jathara.

The influx of private vehicles and RTC buses overwhelmed local infrastructure, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Officials reported that a shortage of traffic personnel further worsened the congestion.

Amid the crowd surge, temple priests completed key rituals by bringing deities Saralamma, Pagididdaraju, Govindarajulu, and Sammakka to their altars. The Jathara, which commenced on January 28, is scheduled to conclude on January 31.

On the same day, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma visited the shrine and made a traditional offering of jaggery equal to his body weight. He was received with ceremonial honours by Minister Seethakka and senior district officials.
