Malkajgiri Traffic launches Helmet Bank to boost road safety

Hyderabad: The Malkajgiri Traffic Helmet Bank was launched as a citizen-friendly initiative to promote road safety and prevent head injuries among two-wheeler riders.

The programme was rolled out under the guidance of Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty and the leadership of DCP Traffic K Rahul Reddy. Officials said the initiative aims to encourage responsible riding behaviour through positive policing.

Under the Malkajgiri Traffic Helmet Bank scheme, riders caught without helmets receive one free of cost on the spot after submitting basic details. However, they must return the helmet within 24 hours after purchasing a new one. Therefore, the system ensures immediate compliance while promoting long-term safety habits.

Police launched the initiative at key junctions, including Sangeet Chowrasta under the Gopalapuram Traffic Police Station limits. Officials said the move seeks to reduce head injuries and improve compliance with traffic norms.

Malkajgiri Traffic Helmet Bank supports Arrive Alive drive

The initiative complements the Telangana Police’s “Arrive Alive” road safety campaign. Authorities said the Helmet Bank reinforces the message that helmets are essential for every ride, regardless of distance.

Officials appealed to two-wheeler riders to wear helmets consistently and support efforts to make roads safer. In addition, they urged citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow safety regulations.

The police expressed confidence that community participation will strengthen the campaign and reduce accident-related fatalities.
