Mahender Reddy distributes sewing machines to 200 minority women in LB Nagar

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Whip Dr. Patnam Mahender Reddy visited LB Nagar constituency on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, paying floral tributes to the late leader.

Marking the occasion, he also handed out sewing machines to 200 underprivileged minority women under the Indiramma Mahila Shakti scheme, aimed at supporting women’s economic empowerment.

The event was attended by MLC Dayanand, District Congress Committee president Narasimha Reddy, Congress in-charge Madhu Yaskhi, and chairpersons from various minority bodies including Mall Reddy Ram Reddy, Ubaidullah Kotwal, and Deepak John. Corporators and local leaders were also present.

Mahender Reddy said the government is implementing multiple schemes for minority welfare. In Ranga Reddy district alone, around ₹1 crore worth of sewing machines are being distributed to 1,400 minority women. Across Telangana, 24,000 poor minority women are being provided sewing machines as a livelihood measure.

He said ₹100 crore has been sanctioned for overseas education aid, including ₹20 lakh and flight charges for each of 500 selected minority students. Minority students are also receiving instruction through dedicated gurukul institutions, with 5,000 students currently studying in nine such schools in Ranga Reddy district.

He added that the Shaadi Mubarak scheme is providing ₹1.16 lakh in financial assistance for minority brides. Women are being prioritised in housing allotments, new ration cards, and other welfare programmes. Free bus travel is being provided to all women in TSRTC services.

Reddy said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was continuing welfare measures despite financial constraints, and reiterated the government’s commitment to social welfare.

Congress leader Madhu Yaskhi Goud said the Revanth Reddy-led government is assuring every woman in the state of its support. He said major development and welfare programmes are being implemented with large funding. He stated the government is functioning in the footsteps of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, focusing on the welfare of poor and minority communities.
