KTR welcomes inauguration of Chanaka Korata, Sadar Mat projects

Hyderabad: BRS Working President K T Rama Rao on Friday welcomed the inauguration of the Chanaka Korata and Sadar Mat irrigation projects. He said the BRS government under K Chandrashekar Rao had taken up and nearly completed both projects.

According to KTR, the inauguration of the two projects was a positive development. He pointed out that both works had crossed 90 per cent completion before the change in government. Therefore, he said, the credit for execution rested with the BRS regime.

Referring to the Chanaka Korata barrage, KTR said it had a water storage capacity of 0.98 TMC. He added that the BRS government completed about 95 per cent of the work. Further, he noted that officials conducted a trial run in September 2023.

He said the project, along with its lift irrigation component, would supply water to around 51,000 acres. As a result, 89 villages in the Adilabad and Boath constituencies would benefit. He also recalled that the government began the project after signing an inter-State agreement with Maharashtra in 2016.

Sadar Mat barrage to irrigate 18,000 acres

Turning to the Sadar Mat barrage, KTR said it had a storage capacity of 1.58 TMC. He stated that the KCR government completed nearly 90 per cent of the construction.

According to him, the project would irrigate about 18,000 acres in Nirmal and Jagtial districts. Moreover, he said the barrage formed part of the wider irrigation push during the BRS tenure.

Highlighting the BRS rule between 2014 and 2023, KTR said the government transformed drought-hit land into fertile fields. Consequently, he claimed, Telangana emerged as a major food grain-producing State during this period.
