Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday accused the Congress government of abandoning Hyderabad’s public health network, alleging severe neglect of Basti Dawakhanas across the city.

During a visit to the Ibrahimnagar Basti Dawakhana and Anganwadi centre in Khairatabad, KTR said the Revanth Reddy-led administration had failed to maintain basic services in facilities set up for the urban poor. He was accompanied by local party leaders.

At the clinic, KTR interacted with doctors and reviewed medical supplies, equipment functioning, and service availability. A female doctor informed him that staff had not received salaries for four months. She also alleged the government was creating obstacles in the disbursement process.

KTR also examined conditions at the Anganwadi centre and distributed sweets to children.

Neglect of Basti Dawakhanas worsening, alleges KTR

Speaking to reporters, KTR said the previous BRS government had launched 450 Basti Dawakhanas to ensure accessible healthcare for the urban poor. These centres, along with Telangana Diagnostic Centres, provided free tests and treatments, he noted.

He criticised the Congress for “abandoning” these services since coming to power, claiming that many clinics had run out of medicines and staff had gone unpaid for months.

“This shows how little regard Revanth Reddy and his government have for public health,” he said.

He also cited the four TIMS hospitals established under the KCR administration around Hyderabad. “Ninety percent of the work was completed during our tenure. This government has failed to finish the remaining ten percent,” he remarked.

KTR questions inclusion of Danam Nagender in Congress list

KTR also questioned the Congress party’s decision to include BRS MLA Danam Nagender in its list of campaigners. “Which party did he win from, and which party is he campaigning for?” he asked.

He accused the AICC of promoting political corruption. “AICC now stands for All India Corruption Committee,” he said.

He criticised defected MLAs for hiding their affiliations and added that they were making false declarations before the Speaker. “Aren’t they ashamed?” he asked.
