KTR slams Congress over Speaker’s MLA defection verdict

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao criticised the Congress on Wednesday. He alleged that the party undermined democracy inside the Telangana Assembly after the Speaker’s MLA defection verdict.

In a social media post, KTR said the Congress showed disregard for the Constitution. He also claimed the party ignored the authority of the country’s highest courts. According to him, Rahul Gandhi once again exposed his lack of respect for constitutional values.

KTR alleged that the Congress mocked the Constitution from the time Chief Minister Revanth Reddy approached BRS MLAs. He said the party continued this approach until the Speaker delivered the verdict. He accused the ruling party of violating democratic norms at every step.

MLA defection verdict exposes Congress double standards, says KTR

KTR said the defecting MLAs themselves admitted switching parties in the name of development. Despite this, he alleged, Rahul Gandhi continued to protect them. He described this as a clear case of double standards.

He said carrying the Constitution for photo opportunities did not amount to respecting it. KTR remarked that Rahul Gandhi would remain in history as a leader who failed to honour a law framed by his own father.

KTR further alleged that the Congress feared by-elections. He linked this fear to what he called public anger over failures during Revanth Reddy’s two-year rule. He said resentment was visible across villages during the Panchayat elections.

According to KTR, this fear explained why the Congress avoided action against defecting MLAs. He said people had already declared them politically unfit, even if the party believed it had protected them for now.
