HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over the ongoing Hyderabad Central University (HCU) land dispute, accusing the government of undemocratic conduct and covert land clearance operations.
Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan, KTR questioned whether the Chief Minister had any real sense of responsibility towards the four crore people of the state, especially when students were fighting for the future of Hyderabad.
He accused the Congress-led state government of stooping to new lows for the sake of money and condemned the midnight bulldozing operations on disputed land. “How far will you go for money? How much wrongdoing will you resort to?” he asked.
“Why These Secret Land Operations at Midnight?”
KTR alleged that the government was entering public land like thieves in the middle of the night, using JCBs to clear land without speaking to protesting students. He reminded that the state had previously told the court it needed ten days to respond to a petition filed by Vata Foundation on March 27-28.
“Why then have bulldozers arrived today? Why were trees felled in the dark of night, animals killed, and birds’ nests destroyed?” he questioned, pointing out the contradiction between the government’s claims and actions.
He further asked, “If it is indeed government land, why behave like thieves? Why not go during the day? Why time it with court holidays—Saturday, Sunday, Ugadi, and Ramzan—to send hundreds of vehicles and demolish everything?”
“Do You Understand What It Means to Represent the People?”
KTR criticised the CM’s work ethic, saying, “You boast about working 18 hours a day. You could work 20 hours like a real estate broker, but at least work 10 minutes like a human being, like a father or grandfather who cares about future generations.”
He questioned whether Revanth Reddy had any emotional connection to Hyderabad, asking whether he felt even “half a paisa’s” worth of affection for the city that students from across the country were fighting to protect.
“Calling Students Jackals? Have You No Shame?”
Referring to the CM’s alleged derogatory remarks towards students, KTR asked, “Do you have to utter every word that comes to your mouth? The CM called protesting students ‘jackals’, and now students are saying, ‘Yes, we’re jackals, but at least not pigs like you.’”
He reminded the public of previous warnings from the High Court, criticising the government for using bulldozers during weekends and holidays, when courts are closed, to demolish poor people’s homes. “Even after repeated rebukes from the High Court and Supreme Court, does your government still not get the message?”
“This Is Not Monarchy, This Is Public Governance”
KTR said the CM was acting as though he owned all government land, including roads, lakes, and hills. “Being in power does not mean this is your kingdom. You are merely a temporary custodian of public wealth. The Governor is a custodian; the people are the true owners.”
He clarified that this was not a personal feud or property dispute, but a question of democratic governance. “Revanth Reddy is not their uncle or grandfather to scold those students. He is a public servant, not a king or emperor,” KTR asserted.
“Salute to the Spirit of Students”
KTR expressed heartfelt support for students protesting at HCU, stating, “On behalf of the BRS and the people of Hyderabad, I salute the spirit of resistance and determination of the students. They are demonstrating courage reminiscent of the Telangana movement.”
Drawing parallels with past student protests at Osmania, Kakatiya, Mahatma Gandhi, Palamuru, and Satavahana Universities, he said the current movement was equally powerful in challenging the state government.
“Not Democratic Conduct, But Authoritarian Behaviour”
KTR warned that bulldozers and brute force could not define public governance. “This is not the Patel-Patwari system. You are not a monarch. You are a servant of the people. Stop treating governance like tyranny.”
He urged the government to remember that it is accountable to the people and bound by democratic principles, not a personal fiefdom.
