Hyderabad: BRS working president K Tarakarama Rao described the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s probe in the Formula E case as a scripted exercise and questioned the basis of the allegations, claiming the entire session was limited to questions dictated by “Chitti Naidu”.
Addressing party leaders at Telangana Bhavan after returning from the ACB office on Monday, KTR alleged that the investigation lacked substance and consisted entirely of repetitive, inconsequential queries. He said the same set of questions was posed for nearly nine hours, with no clarity on what wrongdoing was being probed.
KTR said the state government had taken a clear policy decision to retain the Formula E race in Hyderabad for a second year after its successful debut. Payments related to that decision were made through official channels, he said, and no element of corruption could be identified when he asked ACB officers to point to any irregularity.
He accused ACB of pursuing politically motivated questions, likening them to queries about which hand transferred money to which. “This is a lottapeesu case,” he said. “There is no allegation left that hasn’t already been answered. This government doesn’t have the administrative capacity or courage to honour its own promises. They’re trying to hide behind diversionary tactics.”
Turning to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, KTR accused him of evading debate in the Assembly on the Formula E issue and challenged him to an open discussion in front of the public. “You said we did wrong. Why not bring it to the Assembly? Why run? I told you – let’s talk in front of four crore people. But you ducked,” he said.
He added that he was ready to take a lie detector test and invited Revanth Reddy to do the same. “If you have nothing to hide, come. But there’s been no trace of you since I said that.”
He said the investigation had already called former ministers, including K. Chandrashekar Rao and T. Harish Rao, and was part of a campaign to discredit past BRS leadership. “They summoned KCR. They summoned Harish Rao. This isn’t about justice. It’s about breaking the morale of our cadre,” he said.
KTR also took aim at Revanth’s alleged political motives, calling him obsessed with jailing BRS leaders. “He wants everyone behind bars. That’s his only agenda. I told the officials – if orders have come from the top, go ahead and jail me. I’ll take 15 days’ rest and return.”
He defended the Kaleshwaram project and the Formula E race, saying both initiatives raised Telangana’s profile. “We didn’t lower Telangana’s name. We took it to the sky,” he said. “For doing that, they now want to imprison us.”
Citing remarks by retired IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar, KTR said the case lacked any criminal basis. “Praveen said in 26 years as an IPS officer, he never saw a more hollow case,” KTR said.
