KTR secures Telangana woman’s return from Muscat after alleged job fraud

Hyderabad: BRS Working President KT Rama Rao facilitated a Telangana woman’s return from Muscat after she allegedly faced employment fraud, passport confiscation and restrictions on returning home.

Tuppudu Lakshmi, a resident of Gokafasalwad village in Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency, returned to India following KTR’s intervention. She met the BRS leader at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday and thanked him for helping her reunite with her family.

Lakshmi had travelled to Muscat on February 27, 2024, hoping to earn money to support her family. However, she allegedly faced exploitation after reaching Oman.

Instead of receiving the employment promised by an agent, Lakshmi was reportedly compelled to perform different work. Her employer, known locally as a Kafeel, also confiscated her passport and denied her permission to return to India.

KTR intervenes to secure woman’s return from Muscat

Lakshmi’s difficulties increased when the local agent allegedly disconnected her Wi-Fi and SIM access. The agent also demanded ₹2 lakh to arrange her return to India. Despite these restrictions, Lakshmi managed to contact her son, Raju, through a neighbour’s internet connection. She explained her circumstances and sought help to return home.

Subsequently, Raju approached KT Rama Rao on September 29 and requested his intervention. KTR assured the family that he would arrange Lakshmi’s return within one month.

Following the request, the BRS leader coordinated with official channels and diplomatic authorities to retrieve her passport. He also pursued the necessary arrangements to facilitate her journey back to India. The intervention eventually secured the woman’s return from Muscat, allowing her to reunite with her family.

Lakshmi thanks KTR at Telangana Bhavan

After returning to Telangana, Lakshmi visited Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday to personally express her gratitude to KT Rama Rao. “KTR Anna promised my son he would bring me home within a month and he kept his word. My family will forever be grateful,” Lakshmi said.

Her return followed the September 29 appeal made by her son and KTR’s assurance that he would help bring her home within a month. Lakshmi’s account described the difficulties she faced abroad, including alleged employment deception, restrictions on communication and the confiscation of her passport.

The woman’s return from Muscat came after KTR coordinated with the relevant authorities to address the obstacles preventing her departure.
