KTR outlines BRS silver jubilee plans, Criticises Centre and State governance

HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K. Tarakarama Rao on Tuesday announced extensive preparations for the BRS Silver Jubilee public meeting in Warangal, while delivering pointed criticism of both the BJP-led central government and the Congress government in Telangana.

In an informal interaction with the media at Telangana Bhavan, Rama Rao stated that the public meeting would be held at Elkathurthy in Warangal district, in an area free of traffic congestion and public disruption. He said arrangements are underway across 1,200 acres to accommodate what is expected to be the party’s largest-ever gathering.

Applications seeking formal permission for the 28 March meeting have been submitted to the district police, and a personal request has also been made to the Director General of Police. The party has approached the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation for 3,000 buses, which has reportedly agreed in principle.

Rama Rao noted that the meeting falls on a Sunday when schools and colleges will remain closed, ensuring minimal inconvenience. He added that BRS President K. Chandrashekhar Rao had personally reviewed constituency-level arrangements with representatives from all 33 districts.

The BRS leader stated that following the public meeting, the party would launch a state-wide digital membership drive. This would be followed by internal organisational elections, formation of district and state committees, and structured training programmes for party workers. A calendar of activities is being planned for the next 12 months, combining institutional development with public mobilisation.

Rama Rao said BRS and Telugu Desam are the only two regional parties in the Telugu states to have completed 25 years of political success. In contrast, he claimed both national parties are “remote-controlled from Delhi,” and warned that placing Telangana in their hands would mean surrendering the state’s autonomy.

He alleged that the Congress government in Telangana is unable to even complete a cabinet expansion, while the BJP-led central government has failed to deliver tangible returns for its elected MPs from the state.

Rama Rao sharply criticised the central government’s recent economic decisions, including a ₹50 increase in LPG cylinder prices and an additional ₹2 cess on petrol and diesel. He said that these hikes were imposed despite declining global crude oil prices and would lead to significant increases in the cost of living, transportation, and essential commodities.

He described the simultaneous fuel price hikes, cess increases, and the ₹19 lakh crore loss in stock market capitalisation as a “hat-trick” of damage delivered by the Modi government in a single day.

He further attacked the Centre for its silence on tariffs introduced by the United States, which he said would severely affect Telangana’s export-reliant sectors—particularly pharma and IT. According to Rama Rao, the central government has neither offered an official response nor allowed any parliamentary discussion on the issue, and both the Prime Minister and Finance Minister have remained silent.

“Except liquor, Congress Govt failed to improve revenues in all sectors”

Criticising the Congress-led Telangana government, Rama Rao said it has failed to improve revenues in sectors other than liquor and accused it of ineffective economic management. He cited zero growth in GST collections and said negative governance trends are eroding economic confidence in the state.

He pointed to stalled infrastructure initiatives such as the Hyderabad Airport Metro and Pharma City, as well as urban mismanagement exemplified by the state’s handling of the Musi River.

Rama Rao reiterated that the BRS Silver Jubilee meeting would proceed peacefully, and any denial of permission by authorities would be challenged in court. He asserted that the event is a celebration of the party’s democratic journey and organisational strength.
