Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao escalated the Telangana debt controversy and charged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy with fabricating interest figures. He said the government inflated numbers on borrowings to create confusion among citizens. The October CAG report, he argued, exposed what he described as Congress’ misleading “crow calculations” on debt and interest.
According to KTR, Congress repeatedly claimed that Telangana paid ₹6,000–₹7,000 crore every month in interest. However, CAG data showed that the state paid ₹16,529.88 crore between April and October 2025. That figure, he said, averaged only ₹2,361.41 crore per month. He accused Congress leaders of continuing to quote exaggerated amounts even after the report clarified the actual burden.
KTR intensifies charge in Telangana debt controversy
He questioned the use of ₹2.23 lakh crore borrowed by the Congress government over the last 23 months. Moreover, he said the administration crossed the FRBM limit without launching a single new scheme or project. He added that the previous government created productive assets with every loan, while the present government increased only the debt pressure.
Parliament records, he noted, showed that BRS borrowed ₹2.80 lakh crore across ten years. Congress, however, raised nearly ₹2.30 lakh crore in just 23 months. In addition, he said the government secured extra loans through several corporations during the last seven months and still failed to publish a detailed breakdown. He demanded immediate disclosure of all figures.
KTR alleged that Congress used debt claims to hide governance failures. Furthermore, he said funds moved toward party supporters, intermediaries and leaders in Delhi. He added that these practices turned Telangana into a “Scamgress ATM.” He said inflated interest numbers allowed the government to divert attention from these issues.
KTR lists demands as Telangana debt controversy widens
He demanded an apology from Revanth Reddy for misrepresenting interest payments. He also called on the government to release complete details of all loans raised in the last 23 months. Similarly, he asked for full disclosure of borrowings secured through corporations over the previous seven months. He argued that both the Legislature and the public needed accurate information.
KTR said Congress could not escape its six guarantees and 420 promises by citing inflated debt claims. Welfare delivery, he said, required transparent financial data. He concluded by urging the administration to stop using loans for political interests and use new borrowings for welfare schemes and key infrastructure.
