Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad is gearing up for a major win in its fight against traffic chaos, with the Kondapur Phase 2 multi-level flyover just about ready to roll. Expected to open in the first week of June, this massive structure will link the Outer Ring Road (ORR) straight to Kondapur, finally giving some breathing room to the thousands of drivers who crawl through the Gachibowli traffic mess every day.
Costing ₹178 crore and built under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), the flyover spans 1.2 kilometres in length and 24 meters in width. But what really sets it apart is its design – it’s a rare triple-decker flyover, stacked above two others already in place. At the base is the Gachibowli junction flyover, followed by the Shilpa Layout Phase 1 flyover, and now this newest addition crowns the top.
Once it’s up and running, the new flyover is expected to streamline traffic from the ORR heading toward Kondapur, Hafeezpet, HiTec City, and the Financial District. It also offers a faster, less congested route between the airport and western Hyderabad, sidestepping the usual traffic snarls in Gachibowli.
After some earlier delays, the project is now in its final leg. GHMC officials are pushing hard to get everything wrapped up by the end of May, with plans in motion for Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to officially open the flyover in early June.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has been closely tracking the project, making frequent site visits and pushing teams to wrap up the final touches. Once it opens, this will mark the 23rd flyover completed under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP), a plan that’s quietly but steadily transforming how Hyderabad moves.
So far, 37 out of the 42 projects planned under SRDP have been completed. Among the few still in progress are the Falaknuma and Shastripuram railway overbridges, expected to be finished by July and August. Their completion would push the total up to 39, further tightening the city’s road network.
This progress feeds into a larger vision to transform Hyderabad into a world-class city. Under the government’s ₹7,032 crore “H-City” initiative, 58 major projects are on the table—including 28 flyovers, 13 underpasses, four railway overbridges, three underbridges, and 10 road-widening schemes. Many of these are already in the tender or agreement phase, with construction on some set to begin next month.
The Kondapur Phase 2 flyover isn’t just another structure – it’s a clear marker of Hyderabad’s growth. For the city’s ever-expanding tech corridor and the lakhs of commuters who rely on it, smoother, faster travel is finally on the horizon.
