Komatireddy orders round-the-clock paddy procurement in cyclone-hit Nalgonda

Hyderabad: Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has directed officials and rice millers to intensify paddy procurement in Nalgonda district following recent delays caused by rains and cyclone conditions.

At a review meeting held Wednesday at the district collector’s office, he asked authorities to operate both day and night. He suggested installing lighting at procurement centres to allow uninterrupted collection.

With large paddy arrivals expected over the next month, Komatireddy urged quick collection and immediate transport to rice mills. He told millers not to create hurdles for farmers during unloading and stressed the need for full cooperation.

He also advised millers not to reject paddy citing moisture or minor damage. Meanwhile, he requested farmers to dry their produce thoroughly and bring it only after meeting moisture standards.

To support seamless operations, the Minister ordered officials to provide more tarpaulins, paddy cleaners, and moisture meters. He called for extra supplies where needed and recommended night shifts at both mills and procurement centres with sufficient staffing.

Highlighting that Nalgonda ranks second in Telangana for paddy procurement, Komatireddy urged all departments to maintain high efficiency throughout the season.

On cotton procurement, he noted that the state government had appealed to the Centre to relax Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) norms. He added that prior discussions with millers had already taken place and that a decision is awaited from the central government.
