Hyderabad: BJP Telangana President and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday openly challenged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to a public debate on the recent caste survey conducted in Telangana.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP office, Kishan Reddy strongly criticised the state government’s caste-based survey, calling it unscientific and lacking credibility. He invited the Chief Minister to fix a date and venue for the debate, stating that he was prepared to attend it anywhere in the state.
He accused the previous BRS government, led by K. Chandrashekar Rao, of authoritarian rule, and claimed that public dissatisfaction was now extending to the current Congress-led government. “People are increasingly looking to the BJP as an alternative,” he asserted.
Predicting political change, Kishan Reddy said that the BJP would form the next government in Telangana, whenever Assembly elections are held. He claimed that the Congress had failed to fulfil the promises it made to the public after coming to power.
Regarding the national caste census announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Minister explained that its primary objective was to determine the true demographic composition of various castes across the country. He said that caste surveys previously conducted by individual states lacked transparency and consistency.
He congratulated the Prime Minister for the Centre’s decision to conduct the census and criticised the Congress for allegedly trying to take undue credit for the initiative. “It is inappropriate for the Congress to claim ownership of a process initiated by the central government,” he said.
