Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha launched a no-holds-barred offensive on Monday, blasting the Congress government over secret land deals and ballooning state debt while also firing veiled warnings at detractors within her own party.
Addressing reporters in Hyderabad, Kavitha alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had quietly moved to convert the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) into a public limited company, calling it a betrayal of Telangana’s land sovereignty.
“1.75 lakh acres were made available to TGIIC during KCR’s tenure. Now they want to mortgage it all behind closed doors,” she said. “They raised ₹10,000 crore by pledging prime land in Kanch Gachibowli. If this is so transparent, why was the GO hidden?”
She accused the Congress government of drowning the state in debt with little to show for it. “They’ve taken loans amounting to ₹1.80 lakh crore. Out of that, only ₹80,000 crore went to service previous loans and interest. Where’s the rest? What’s the plan? People deserve answers,” she said, demanding a white paper on public finances.
But the fire wasn’t reserved for the ruling party alone. Kavitha also addressed growing speculation about internal tensions in the BRS and the smear campaign allegedly targeting her.
“I’ve been touring 47 constituencies, working to rebuild trust in the party. I’m not speaking out of personal hurt – I’m relaying what people are saying. While I do that, a few in the party are busy spinning lies about me,” she said.
With emotion spilling into her voice, she added: “Six months in jail wasn’t enough for them? They still want to drag me further? Let them try. If I’m provoked again, I’ll respond louder than before.”
Kavitha stopped short of naming those behind the alleged character attacks but made it clear she expects the party to act. “I believe BRS will stand up against this. But if it doesn’t, I know how to speak for myself.”
The remarks come days after her controversial comment on Telangana’s “incomplete social justice”, which sparked sharp political reactions. Critics accused her of indirectly criticising the BRS’s own decade-long rule under her father, KCR.
Political circles have since been abuzz with rumours of widening cracks within the party’s top ranks. The tension, reportedly simmering between Kavitha, K.T. Rama Rao, Harish Rao, and strategist Santosh Rao, came into sharper focus after the party’s silver jubilee event in Elkathurthy last month, where insiders claimed the discomfort was on display.
Her repeated warnings, sharp tone, and refusal to toe the usual party line have only added fuel to speculation over her future in BRS – and whether a new political outfit is on the horizon.
But for now, Kavitha’s message is two-pronged and unmistakable: she’s not backing down from attacking the government – and she won’t stay silent inside the party either.
