Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha demanded immediate release of pending dues for teachers, accusing the Congress government of ignoring their rights despite publicly praising them.
Speaking after unveiling the logo of the newly launched Telangana Jagruti Teachers Federation (TJTF), Kavitha pressed for the payment of five pending DAs, PRC arrears, KGBV salaries, and the timely release of health cards. She criticised the government for overburdening teachers with administrative work through online apps while delaying salaries.
She also sought the cancellation of the new pension scheme, restoration of the old system, proper appointments for Gurukul hostel duties, and TET exemptions for teachers recruited before 2010. Additionally, she called for timely payments to teachers under the Tribal Welfare and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan schemes.
Kavitha demands teachers’ support, recalls Prof Jayashankar’s legacy
Kavitha named Prof Jayashankar as her favourite teacher, crediting him for raising awareness about the Telangana cause. She praised the role of teachers in spreading the Telangana ideology through classroom activities, maps, and quizzes, and said the TJTF would operate inclusively with other associations.
She also raised concerns over delayed retirement benefits affecting teachers’ family planning and housing needs.
On a separate note, Kavitha criticised BJP MPs for participating in the BC bandh while avoiding real action in Parliament. She warned of a mass movement if they failed to support the BC Bill. Regarding her son’s presence at the bandh, she clarified it was to teach social responsibility, not signal a political entry.
