Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kavitha on Thursday insisted that local body elections must not go ahead without ensuring reservations for Backward Classes (BCs). She criticised the Chief Minister for failing to take an all-party delegation to the Prime Minister as promised. Kavitha demanded that the state government lead an all-party team to Delhi by July 8.
She called on Congress BC leaders to mount pressure on the state and said the AICC president Kharge would be sent a letter urging him to push the BJP over the BC bill. Kavitha appealed for success of the rail blockade planned under Jagruti’s banner on July 17 to press for BC quotas. She unveiled a poster for the protest at her residence in Hyderabad.
Speaking at the event, Kavitha said support had been gathered from multiple parties for the rail blockade. She confirmed a letter had been sent to BJP’s new state president Ramachander Rao, asking him to treat the issue as his first challenge.
Kavitha targeted Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging he was coming to Hyderabad only to secure advantage in local polls. She questioned how local elections could proceed when BCs had not received their promised benefits. She accused Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi of never raising BC issues in Parliament. Kavitha demanded that Kharge ensure BJP delivers on 42 percent BC reservations.
She pressed the state government to release caste census data down to the gram panchayat level, calling current numbers outdated. Kavitha warned that trains between Telangana and Delhi would be blocked on July 17 as part of their protest to force BJP’s hand on the BC reservation bill.
She also attacked the Congress over the Godavari-Banakacharla project, calling its stance weak. Kavitha said the Congress MLA Anirudh Reddy had spoken of the project only to protect some contractors. She alleged covert supporters of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu were active in Telangana, and urged PCC chief Revanth Reddy to fight hard to stop Banakacherla.
