Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha alleged government negligence caused the Adilabad RIMS fire that killed five children. She demanded immediate action from the Telangana government.
Kavitha visited the parents of infants affected by the RIMS SNCU fire at Suraksha Children’s Hospital in Adilabad. She later spoke to the media about the incident and the condition of government hospitals.
She questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over his absence from Adilabad after the deaths. Kavitha referred to the Chief Minister’s earlier statement that he had adopted Adilabad district.
She asked why the Chief Minister had not visited the district after five children died. Kavitha also questioned the government’s priorities while referring to the Chief Minister’s football activities and foreign travel.
She further alleged that the victims included minority and tribal children. According to Kavitha, the government should have responded immediately to the tragedy.
Adilabad RIMS fire exposes alleged hospital funding gaps
Kavitha gave the Chief Minister one month to address pending health bills and improve roads in tribal settlements. She also demanded disclosure of funds received from the Centre for those works.
She warned that the Telangana Rakshana Sena would mobilise tribal people from the erstwhile Adilabad district if the government failed to meet the demands within the deadline.
According to Kavitha, the party would not treat the visit as a routine inspection. She alleged that government hospitals lacked adequate doctors, staff and sanitation workers.
Kavitha also claimed that hospitals lacked even basic maintenance funds for items such as brooms, phenyl, cotton and medicines. She alleged that the government owed Rs 500 crore in Aarogyasri dues.
The Telangana Rakshana Sena chief also questioned the maintenance system at RIMS. She said the hospital had about 150 air-conditioners but no mechanic to maintain them.
Kavitha linked the alleged maintenance gaps to the fire in which an air-conditioner reportedly exploded after a short circuit. She demanded immediate government intervention over the incident.
She also called on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to visit the hospital. Kavitha demanded prompt action to address the issues raised after the Adilabad RIMS fire.
