Hyderabad: Excise, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao reviewed the Indiramma housing scheme in Kollapur constituency and directed officials to speed up house construction.
During a meeting in Pentlavelli, he assessed the progress of 3,500 houses approved in the first phase.
He also sought details about houses where beneficiaries had not started construction.
Jupally Krishna Rao said an Indiramma house could transform the life of a poor family.
Indiramma housing scheme aims to accelerate construction
The minister directed officials to ensure that beneficiaries begin construction of all pending houses within 15 days.
Otherwise, the government may allot those houses to other villages with eligible beneficiaries.
Further, he urged public representatives, local leaders and Indiramma committee members to encourage beneficiaries to start construction immediately.
Jupally Krishna Rao also reviewed the problems faced by 57 beneficiaries under the L3 category.
He said the government had already taken up the issue and expected an early solution.
Meanwhile, he said the government introduced a gazetted officer verification system for eligible families who had entered the L3 list by mistake.
He instructed officials to conduct field inspections and coordinate with MPDOs.
They should move eligible beneficiaries to the L1 category after verification.
The minister also discussed support for extremely poor families who cannot build houses on their own.
The government is examining a proposal to construct houses for such beneficiaries through a special agency.
Under the proposal, the agency would build each house at an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh.
He added that families living in huts would get first preference among the 2,000 houses allotted to Kollapur constituency in the second phase.
