Jubilee Hills BJP leader Cherka Mahesh quits, alleges Congress pact in Telangana

Hyderabad: In a major political twist, BJP leader Cherka Mahesh resigned from the party, alleging that a secret deal between the Congress and BJP in Telangana was deceiving the state’s people.

Mahesh, who earlier served as the BJP joint convener for Jubilee Hills constituency, announced his resignation from the party’s primary membership. His move triggered unease within the state BJP unit. He sent his resignation letter to Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy through party channels.

Mahesh accuses BJP of opportunistic politics

In his letter, Mahesh accused the BJP leadership of aligning with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for “opportunistic politics.” He said that while the two parties act as political enemies at the national level, they have colluded in Telangana.

He alleged that both BJP and Congress failed to ensure social justice by not granting 42 percent reservations for BCs. Moreover, he said the parties ignored the problems faced by farmers, youth, women, and backward communities.

Mahesh said the BJP remained silent despite mounting crises in Telangana. “The party has failed to raise its voice against injustice in the Assembly or Parliament,” he said. Therefore, he declared that he no longer wished to continue in the party under such conditions.

Extends support to Maganti family

Explaining his future plans, Mahesh said he would support the family of late leader Maganti Gopinath. He said his responsibility now was to stand with Gopinath’s wife, Sunitha Maganti, during this difficult time.

He further added that he would not join any national party henceforth and would continue working for the interests and self-respect of Telangana people. Mahesh also thanked the BJP for giving him an opportunity to serve during his political career.
