Hyderabad Police arrested three members of an interstate attention diversion gang, recovering 57 grams of stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 4.85 lakh.
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police have arrested three members of an interstate attention diversion gang involved in stealing gold ornaments under the pretense of polishing them. The arrests were made by the Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, in coordination with Chatrinaka Police. A total of 57 grams of gold, including two gold chains, along with mobile phones and a weighing machine, were recovered from the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Sattar Ali (45), Md. Amir (38), and Md. Riyaz Malik (42), all residents of Metpally, Jagityala district. While Sattar and Amir are originally from Bihar, Riyaz Malik hails from West Bengal.
Modus Operandi and Arrest
Police revealed that Sattar and Amir had been working as gold and silver polishers, traveling across villages for their trade. However, they were also engaged in thefts by diverting the attention of their victims. In 2018, they committed multiple thefts in Telangana, following which they were arrested and detained under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act.
After being released, they returned to their native places but resumed their activities five months ago. Upon their return to Telangana, they reconnected with Riyaz Malik and conspired to carry out similar crimes. In December 2024, the trio stole gold ornaments in Korutla, Jagityala district. Again, on February 18, 2025, they targeted a victim in Chatrinaka, Hyderabad, stealing a gold chain while pretending to polish it.
Following a complaint at Chatrinaka Police Station, police launched an investigation. Acting on a tip-off, the Commissioner’s Task Force, along with Chatrinaka Police, traced and arrested the suspects.
Recovered Property
- Gold Chains: 57 grams (One chain of 37 grams, another of 20 grams).
- Mobile Phones: Three units.
- Weighing Machine: One unit.
- Total Estimated Value: Rs 4.85 lakh.
The accused, along with the recovered property, have been handed over to the Chatrinaka Police Station for further legal proceedings. The arrests were made under the supervision of S. Raghavendra, Inspector of Police, South Zone Task Force, with assistance from Sub-Inspectors N. Naveen, M. Mahesh, K. Narsimulu, and G. Anjaneyulu, and the South Zone Task Force team.
